Solar Battery » Solar Panel Grants

Solar energy grants are something you may have heard about in the past, with government solar panel grants for homeowners encouraging the installation of solar panels. This was a way of pushing renewable energy at a time when it wasn’t popular with the wider public. As times have changed, the popularity of solar panel systems has increased significantly. As a result, there are no longer solar panels grants from the government available in the same way.

Despite there no longer being government grants for solar energy available to UK homeowners, that isn’t the end of available subsidies. The government has been offering Feed-In Tariff provisions, which allows those with solar panel systems to receive a measure of additional income from the government based on how much solar energy they generate. This approach ensures that if you rely on solar energy, you are not only lowering your energy bills, but also potentially making money from helping to generate solar energy for others.

Some key solar battery questions are covered in these guides:

How much money does a solar battery save?

Does a solar panel battery system increase home value?

How do solar batteries and solar panels work on cloudy days?

How much electricity does a solar panel battery system produce?

Are government grants for solar energy still available?

The old rent-a-roof, solar energy grants were a common sight at one time, with companies offering to rent your roof space for 25-year periods at a time in order to gain from the Feed-In Tariff that the government offers. You wouldn’t have to pay towards the cost of the solar panel installation or the maintenance, and would benefit from the use of solar energy, but the payments for the Feed-In Tariff would be kept by the company installing.

Since the announcement on Feed-In Tariff payments being cut significantly (they were cut by 64% in 2016), free solar panels were no longer a viable option for companies, but they continued to be hugely appealing to clients looking for a long-term way to control energy consumption, save money and help the environment at the same time. This is where solar panel grants for homeowners continued.

Between 2013 and 2015, grants for installing solar panels were available. The government policy (the Green Deal) was launched as a way of assisting homeowners in making amendments to their homes to make them more energy-efficient, helping to cut energy bills in the process. Solar panels grants would provide a loan to cover the cost of solar panel installation, with flexible repayments from 10-25 years covered by the reduction in monthly energy bills. Since 2015, this policy has been scrapped, but what continued to be in place is the Feed-In Tariff, which is available to UK homeowners until April 2019.

What is the Feed-In Tariff?

With the price of solar panel installation proving much more affordable to households in recent years, the Feed-In Tariff offers a chance to make an additional return on your investment. The Feed-In Tariff is a way of rewarding homeowners who could have been receiving solar energy grants in the past, those who are still looking to make the most of renewable energy.

For every kWh of electricity that you generate, you receive a set amount which is called the Generation Tariff. On top of the Generation Tariff, you can also get paid for the surplus that you send
back to the grid. This isn’t measured (unless you install an export meter), so you are paid for 50% of
how much you generate, known as the deemed Export Tariff.

As an alternative to the old grants for installing solar panels, the Feed-In Tariff is a great scheme that applies for 20 years and offers great return on investment. A household utilising the Feed-In Tariff can gain significant income on top of their energy savings, with specific amounts depending on the number of solar panels installed at the property. This is why even as solar energy grants have come to an end, the installation of solar panels has continued to increase.

How long will the Feed-In Tariff be available?

The Government has decided that once we reach April 2019, Feed-In Tariff access will be scrapped for new customers, with the rate for new applicants being reduced every 3 months in the build-up to this. You are still guaranteed to receive payments for 20 years if you’re accepted to sign up to the Feed-In Tariff prior to the current April 2019 cut off point for the scheme.

What this all means, is that any time before April 2019 is the perfect time to end your search for solar power grants and speak to a member of the Moixa team about taking advantage of our solar panels and domestic solar battery systems that help you to maximise the potential of the Feed-In Tariff, whilst cutting energy bills and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time.

A range of solar battery benefits

You may have come here looking for information on how to acquire government grants for solar energy, but instead you can see the real and long-term benefits to installing solar energy, namely through a combination of solar panels and solar battery . Even as the Feed-In Tariff access ends, there are further potential benefits through joining our GridShare membership. You’ll be making even more income, on top of the major annual savings on your energy bills, with GridShare membership entitling you to:

  • Free extended warranty for your Moixa Smart Battery for as long as you are a GridShare member
  • For the first three years, GridShare members receive a fixed payment of £50
  • After this, we offer a profit-share option on future incomes generated by battery to grid services

You might not be able to take advantage of solar panel grants for homeowners anymore, but with the addition of a Moixa Smart Battery alongside your solar panel installation, you can see real long-term benefits. You’ll not only have access to solar energy to charge your home during the day, but you will also be able to charge the battery to power your home when the sun goes down, as well as the aforementioned benefits of the Feed-In Tariff and/or GridShare membership.

By using the Moixa Smart Battery, which we install alongside solar panels at homes across the UK – or add the battery to existing solar panels if you already have them at your property – you’ll have the potential to join our GridShare membership, with you receiving a share of potential future profits. What makes it even better, is that once you have signed up, we do all the work; selling the energy, collecting the payments, then providing you with your share of the profits on an annual basis.
