Solar Battery » Is My Home Suitable for Solar Panels?

For many people interested in purchasing an alternative power source for their home, the question running through their minds might be ‘is my property suitable for solar panels?’. It is certainly a question worth asking, especially as residents of the UK, where we all know that the sun hides away more often than not.

At Moixa we understand that you’ll have your questions about solar panel systems and that’s why we’ve put together this guide to provide you with all the information you require to answer the question ‘is my home suitable for solar panels?’. When it comes to the suitability of most homes in the UK to benefit from solar power, we believe that the answer is an emphatic yes. In fact, solar panels can generate significant amounts of electricity that can be used to power your home, even when the weather is overcast.

Aside from natural light, there isn’t much more needed to get a solar panel up and running and generating energy for your home, so what are the aspects to look out for that will help you determine an answer to your question of is my home suitable for solar panels?

See how much you could save by generating your own renewable electricity

The Roof of the Property – Depending on the amount of electricity you require (the size of the house to power and the number of inhabitants) there are different types of solar panel systems that can be installed at your property. Most often, our customers install 14 solar panels and combine it with a 3kWh solar battery for added storage potential. Once you know how many solar panels you wish to install the size of your roof and the space around it comes into play.

Within the attic there must be a small area of room available for the inverter to fit (this is the size of a microwave). For the most efficient solar panel systems the roof is best facing south, but even on east and west facing roofs you’ll only lose around 15% from a north-facing roof. We will ensure that as far as possible, there are no shaded areas on the roof and that the panels are installed at a 35-degree angle for optimal absorption of sunlight, but there are ways to maximise generation even in shade, e.g. microinverters/power optimisers

Potential Money-Making Process – Although Government grants that effectively allowed you to take payment for your roof space to be used by energy companies are no longer in effect, the Feed-in Tariff is still an option up until 1st April 2019. This allows you to receive payment for any energy that your solar panels generate, back to the National Grid. The sooner you sign up, the higher the rate of tariff, and it lasts for 25 years, so even if you sign up in March 2019, you should still have access to income from this scheme until 2044.

Planning PermissionDo you need planning permission for solar panel installation? In most cases you do not, a most installations will fall under Permitted Development rights and therefore do not require planning permission. However, there are a few circumstances where planning permission will be required. For instance, if you’re in a conservation area, the panels should not be visible from the road. You may also need permission if you are having a ground mounted system. If you don’t have any of those concerns, you should be totally clear to add solar panels.

As you can see, it is more than likely that the answer to your question ‘is my property suitable for solar panels?’ is an emphatic yes! At Moixa we believe in giving our customers the chance to maximise the potential of solar power and that is why all of our solar panel systems are installed with our solar battery as standard. The Moixa Smart Battery is designed to help you achieve more from solar power. As the sun’s rays help to generate electricity to power your home during the day, it will at the same time charge the battery.

Then, at night you can continue powering your home with solar energy. You can even receive a Feed-in Tariff payment for any electricity that you generate, providing you with money made on top of energy bill savings. Head to our Receive a Quote where you can fill out some details and arrange to speak to a consultant about your specific requirements. We’ll then put together a bespoke quote for solar panels, select the best Moixa Smart Battery for you from our 2kWh, 3kWh and 4.8kWh options, and advise on installation, based on your circumstances. Although we can’t give a precise quote here, we can provide you with a general ballpark figure:

  • For a 2kWp solar panel system and Smart Battery (including full installation and VAT) = £4995

For a Moixa Smart Battery alone (including installation and VAT):

  • 2kWh = £2950
  • 3kWh = £3450
  • The average 14-panel solar power system with 3kWh Solar battery unit = £9,000

All prices include full installation and are inclusive of VAT. We also offer flexible payment options for those worried about the cost being too high for solar panel installation.

When you add the Moixa Smart Battery, the savings are truly worthwhile. Our solar panel systems produce the equivalent energy to the level required to boil the kettle between 42 and 83 times per day (depending on the system you choose) and with a saving on energy bills from day one, you can see the savings first hand. Annually, your bill for electricity should be reduced by anything from £425 and £680, and that’s before you factor in the money made from the Feed-in Tariff and possible GridShare membership.

If you visit our Contact page you can see how easy it is to speak to a member of the Moixa team. Is my home suitable for solar panels? You’ve asked, and we’ve answered. Yes, and just look at the long-term cost savings, as well as the significant reduction in your carbon footprint.
