Solar, Storage and Smart Charging EV’s – our partnership and trial with EO Charging

Across the UK – schools, councils, businesses and individuals are declaring a climate emergency. With the IPCC report giving the world only 12 years to make urgent changes or risk a climate breakdown – individuals are taking a closer look at their personal lifestyle choices and impact on the environment.

One of the biggest ways people can lessen their environmental impact is by rethinking the way they travel. This has energised the uptake of Alternatively Fuelled Vehicles (AFVs), especially electric cars. According to an AutoTrader report, almost three quarters (71%) of car owners said they’d consider buying an electric vehicle (EV) as their next car and in 2018, there were almost 60,000 plug-in models purchased!

So, what do EV’s have to do with Moixa?

At Moixa, we have always been committed to making energy work as efficiently as possible and we are building energy technology to support the transition to a low-carbon and renewable energy powered future. This is why we have developed a range of smart, solar, home batteries to help homeowners generate their own clean, solar energy and store it for when they need it.

Every Moixa Smart Solar Battery is built with GridShare software, the intelligent technology that adds “smarts” to the battery. By identifying home energy generation and consumption patterns along with weather activity, it creates a charging plan which works best for the household. GridShare is constantly being developed and we are thrilled to announce that we are now testing our 4.8kWh Moixa Smart Battery to optimise smart charging for households with EV’s.

Our Moixa Smart Battery allows EV owners to optimally smart-charge their electric vehicle at home based on their energy consumption, solar generation and energy tariff. By looking at household habits, GridShare regularly forecasts future energy needs. This information will be used to control and optimise not only the battery, but also the EV charging to minimise energy bills, whilst enabling users to reduce their carbon footprint.

Plug and smart charge functionality

The Moixa Smart Battery will automatically calculate the best charge plan for when the electric vehicle is plugged in and will charge according to this. Through the Moixa Dashboard and app, EV owners will also be able to over-ride the plan.

Future benefits of a Moixa Smart Battery with EV functionality will include:

  • Automatically charge your EV, or smart battery, from the cheapest energy when matched with a time of use tariff
  • Choose how much solar energy is used to charge the car
  • View live home energy flows and the EV charging status through the Moixa Dashboard and app
  • Daily, weekly and three-month historical data views

Smart EV charging, Moixa Smart Batteries and solar energy will be an ideal combination when controlled by GridShare. Generate solar energy, store it in a battery and allow GridShare to control smart charging.

Minimise the impact of an EV on your energy bills and carbon footprint with a Moixa Smart Battery. EV smart charge functionality is currently being tested with a 4.8kWh Moixa Smart Battery and the EO Genius, a charger for the energy conscious EV driver.
